| From the Where2sing.com forum: Re: Increased subscription costs for hosts. I have been reading posts on this subject for a while now before commenting. The way some of the posts are written, especially those from NSW, it sounds like there are hordes of people that go to karaoke based on information they find on W2S. Although I have no reason to doubt that this may be the case in NSW, it certainly does not seem to apply in VIC. Maybe Victorians are a little behind NSW in both Karaoke and also Internet usage.
We run 3 very successful gigs on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday nights, and are in the process of building up a new one on Thursday nights. In all cases about 99% of our crowd are either locals or regulars. We post our gigs on 3 different Karaoke Gig Guides, and we advertise W2S in the very front of our songbooks, and when having discussions with our customers we also mention W2S. However, our experience is that none of these Gig guides, including W2S, have provided us with any great increase in patrons.
I was more than happy to pay the standard subscription fee, as I get a lot of enjoyment out of reading the various posts, and have also contributed in posts, reviews and more recently providing a gig review. But along with a couple of other Victorian hosts that I know well and talk to on a reasonably frequent basis, I am not convinced in the value of an increased subscription level for hosts.
What you have done David is very clever. You started this website as a hobby, and have put a lot of time and effort into it. You have, with the help of a lot of people providing you information built what some see as a valuable resource. Then you bring in a basic subscription cost to offset some of your own costs, which is quite understandable. However, now you are talking about increased subscription costs for hosts, as a number of non-hosts are unwilling to subscribe. As I have stated earlier in this post, I am not convinced of the added value.
