| From the Where2sing.com forum: David: You say that to take away the talent that is singers on W2S, you're not going to have much in the way of an audience. My assumption is that you are referring to crowd audience in an actual karaoke venue. If this is not what you meant, I stand corrected. If that is what you meant, then again, I am assuming that you believe that if you pulled out all of the W2S people out of a venue that there would be not many people left. This implies that you have an impression of how many people that go to venues that have karaoke on are W2S people.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you don't actually believe that, but it was a spicy thing to say and the comment serves to back your overarching dialogue about the potency of W2S. I'm sorry David, but I'm going to have to call bull on that.
The EE Fan Page is partly a tool for marketing yes and no, I don't see W2S as a site that I can exert editorial control over. Having said that, I don't see that it is in anyone's best interest that factually incorrect information is not countered with a response.
The latest debate about rotations established that the hosts who offered their opinion do not use the rotation method that you believe to be the most fair. It did however draw attention to the reason why you feel that it is fair given that there is a decent chance that the majority of shows do not operate their rotations in this way.
When I started hosting, I found a lot of my beliefs about how a rotation should be run were challenged and and are now quite different to what they were back in the beginning. My rotation technique continues to change, even as recently as 2 weeks ago I've made changes as to how duets are processed under specific circumstances as it was pointed out to me that in a small number of cases, the way I was handling some duets was contrary to my stated goals of rotation management.
My comment to you is that it is my belief that if you should ever watch first hand a rotation being built from scratch, your ideas on what a rotation is, what it is designed to do and most importantly why it is done that way will develop and take into account points of view beyond your own experience as a traditional karaoke singer. When you see a host attempt to cater to the traditional karaoke singer, the casual karaoke singer, the patron who is deciding to get up for the first time, the patron who doesn't want to sing but loves singing along at their table, you see a range of influences on what 'fair' means and by definition, you become more informed.
It would be great if everyone who called themselves a karaoke singer could see this process take place as it adds to their understanding of the activity they love but I know that's not terribly practical. You on the other hand have a megaphone and level of authority in this industry because of this website. I applaud that it exists and I applaud that you use it. What I would like to see though is an informed use of that platform. I find it hard to see why anyone would advocate uninformed editorialisation.
