David - I have just read your newsletter, and am both amused and annoyed at your sarcasm in relation to my suggestion, made in the 'Ask David Forum', that you do some 'leg work'.
It is interesting that you make light of my suggestion. I have been associated with this web site since you started it, and as a matter of fact was quite active in the early times providing you with a significant number of gig listings and associated information in Victoria. At the time I was not hosting my own shows, and was literally doing my own leg work, checking out other gigs around Melbourne to see what other hosts were doing, what was working, and what I thought wasn't working, before I jumped completely in.
Your gig guide in the early days of this site was built by the willingness of a number of people who contributed information that you now charge for. Don't get me wrong here, I am quite happy to pay my subscriptions as I am fully aware that there are costs associated with keeping this site up and basically ad free. However, I think it is a bit rich for you not to also put some effort into maintaining accurate listings as well.
Your sacastic comments in relation to this matter were taken to the extreme and not appreciated. My expression of 'leg work' could refer to a few phone calls that YOU could make to clean up the listings to make them more accurate.
You must have certainly noticed that the Karaoke public in Victoria do not participate in this site anywhere near those from QLD or NSW, and therefore you don't have the same amount of freelance Gig Guide amendments.
As I stated in my original post on this issue, my information in most cases is second and third hand, and is provided to me in chit chat with punters who attend my gigs. I do not get to out to check out other gigs very often due to hosting. Surely you do not expect me to jump in and provide this information as it may well not be correct.
My suggestion was made with the best intentions. I am willing to provide whatever information I know to be factual, but I am certainly not willing to spend my time and effort ringing around other Venues or Operators to confirm Gigs so I can provide that information to this site.
