| From the Where2sing.com forum: Apologies to the CBD venue I trashed re violent hoons. Last night, different venue was worse. Not the lone KJ’s fault. Opening conversation w/ colleague “Do you think it’s loud?” “Do I think it’s what?”. Even the bar lady couldn’t hear drink orders, resulting in sign language & pointing. So much for economic rationalist arguments if you can’t sell drinks. We can’t rely on venues & KJs. We have our own passive culture to blame for why we stand like sheep near ear-damaging speakers only to have people taking the piss out of us and even assaulting us. When I have to stick my fingers in someone’s chest & yell “piss off” so loud that I was heard outside the venue, things have gotten out of hand. Nor was I the most assaulted. A female singer had the same hoon undress himself in front of her & rub against her. Try that on a public street after reading the NSW Crimes Act! After case discussions about pack rape & skull fracture following assault, the last thing I need is a violent hobby. So we won’t be going back. No loss to karaoke you say? Well, I think our group made up a measurable portion of the til and a significant proportion of actual singers. I counted only about 2 locals who actually sang. Most of the real music was provided by our troubadour comrades who include my local in their rounds. What did the hoons contribute? The crowd thinned anyway. Did they buy drinks or were they pissed before they got there? I dunno. Only the venue can know that. As for the music, there were accomplished singers there going to waste. No one sounded their best. We all had to pick shouting type songs & the sound level allowed no vocal subtlety. So, Hoons 1 Singers 0.
