This leads me to some stories told to me by Filipino and Taiwanese patrons at my old venue. They used to ask me, at the outset, whether there are any 'Killer Songs' on my list? I said 'What??!!??' 'Killer Songs' they repeated .... rather annoyed that I couldn't understand them!
As it turns out, 'Killer Songs' in karaoke bars in the Philippines and Taiwan are songs people get 'done-over' for (KILLED) if sung!! They are the reserved songs for the local mobsters, and NO ONE is to pick and sing them, even on nights when the specific mobsters aren't there!! And yes, you guessed some of them - they are 'My Way', 'Feelings', 'Unchained Melody', 'Mack The Knife' to mention a few.
