When they first got up and running, they were a major exception to the rule regarding the usual turn out for karaoke. Instead of 90% average to below with maybe 5% great and 5% terrible, they had about 95% great, 1 - 2% terrible and 3 - 4% average to below. Truly astonishing. For all you Idol fans, one girl who was a regular there made it into the 3rd round in 2005's Idol.
Then, after their first comp, that PLUNGED downhill. Nowadays it even lacks the cool atmosphere it had especially since they decided to crowd the dance floor with lounge style seating. Used to be tables with wicker furniture for dining at which still left plenty of room for dancers. Not for dance breaks as such but just during the singing.
The hosts aren't the only attractive ladies in attendance. There are plenty of hot, nubile young things who attend but alas, that's not enough to keep me as a regular visitor. They're heavily into contemporary RnB music and Whitney Houston there and even though there's a few songs from this era I love to do, I really prefer singing older stuff which is not appreciated by that crowd and what's the point of being on stage at karaoke if your audience doesn't even want you there or if you have to do what you don't want to in order to be accepted? There's only so many times I can stomach singing Chocolate Salty Balls and the A Little Less Conversation and Rubberneckin' remixes to keep the crowd happy. Last time I was there, I teamed up with one of the girls to sing Mariah Carey's I'll Be There which went over well. The host that night was a new face to me but was lovely - not just looks wise but in persona. I go every now and then but I prefer Fridays and Saturdays for karaoke myself.
Sorry to hear about your drink situation. It might pay to have the people at the next table keep it safe for you if they wouldn't mind. The people who show are friendly enough there to do so. I see now that someone else has suggested this in the General forum.
A lot of the Polynesian crowd with whom I was pals seem to have found other things to do on Thursday nights too which is a shame cos I loved the stuff they loved to sing.
Just regarding the waterfall sink, It actually used to take actually placing your hands underneath the taps to activate the water flow but the mechanism jammed and they never fixed it. The automatic hand dryer built in to the same unit but further along the mirror likewise stopped working and as far as I know still doesn't work.
The club itself is a great place though. Upstairs is great. More bars, pool tables, a nightclub, a small function room and even pokies for those into that. Personally, I think the karaoke should be upstairs. I think they'd have more business then. Still, sometimes, they'll have live bands upstairs and karaoke downstairs at the same time, so that also works for 'em.
